How to Time Your Truck Purchase for the Best Deal

Blog

When it comes to truck sales, timing is everything. Since the sales people normally work on commission, keep their needs in mind when you plan the day you want to go shopping. By timing your shopping just right, you can have a better chance at getting the best deal.

Shop Late in the Year

At the end of the year, the new models are coming out. Dealers need to make room for new models and get rid of the old ones. If you don't need the newest model, this is when you are most likely to get your best deal. It's not just a matter of making room either. The price on last year's model may drop a bit because it isn't the latest model. Combine that with the fact that dealers are trying to meet their year end quota, and you have a prime buyer's market.

Buy at Month's End

If you aren't worried about the year of the truck you get, focus on month's end sales. Truck sales are easier to negotiate at the end of the month, when dealers are turning in their monthly total. The timing in this case isn't about getting rid of last year's model for the lot. It's about dealer incentive. Since they work on commission, you have a better chance at negotiating a good deal at the end of the month. If the end of the month is also the end of the week or quarter, your chances of getting a great deal just skyrocketed.

Take a Chance at the End of the Day

If a dealer sees a good chance to make one last sale at the end of the day, he or she is going to be more willing to stick around for it. You can increase your chances of better negotiations by coming prepared. Even though the dealer wants to make one last sale, they also want to get home in a timely manner.

  • Try to get approved for a loan before going to the dealer. Use an online application if it's available.
  • Bring your identification.
  • Take your last two pay stubs, tax returns, or any other form of income verification you have on hand.

Present yourself as a serious buyer who isn't going to have any problems making a down payment or getting a loan. This will make dealers take you seriously. They won't want you to go looking at other truck sales, so they are more willing to negotiate the price of the truck, like at Atchison Truck Repairs Pty Ltd.
