Underlying Issues That Will Mandate Auto Heating Repairs

Blog

While some motorists are under the impression that their car's heating and cooling system is only valuable during the summer when they need relief from the scorching heat, the reality is that driving in the cold is not a walk in the park either. Thus, the same way you take measures to ensure that your cooling system is in top-notch condition is how you should take care of your heating.

Yet, many motorists ignore this system until the winter months, and this leaves room for mechanical problems to worsen and affect its overall functionality. So how can you identify what issue is plaguing your auto heating? Below are a few of the underlying issues that will mandate auto heating repairs.

The thermostat is deficient

Although the thermostat is tasked with regulating how fast the coolant will circulate through the engine, it does not mean that it does not play a role in your car's heating. When you turn on your car's heating, the thermostat will ensure that the coolant does not circulate through the engine. As a consequence, the engine will heat up, and this allows other car parts to absorb this heat. The moment the temperature reaches your desired comfort, the thermostat will then release the coolant and allow it to circulate to a certain temperature.

When this is achieved, the thermostat will prevent the coolant from flowing and so and so forth. Having said that, once the thermostat starts to malfunction, it cannot regulate the coolant as it is supposed to and this means you will have difficulties with getting the interior of your car warm. When this happens, it is advisable to seek auto heating repair services to restore the performance of the thermostat.

The heater hose is defective

Another crucial component in ensuring that your vehicle's heating is working is the heater hose. While not many motorists are familiar with the heater hose, this component has two important roles. To begin with, the heater hose will work to transport heated coolant from the engine to the heater core. When the coolant arrives at the heater core, it is directed into tiny tubes located in this component so that the coolant can move towards the heater fan.

The heater fan will then blast air over the tubes, and this heated air will travel through the vents of your car to create heat. Once the coolant loses this heat, the second task of the heater hose is to transport the cooled coolant back to the engine. The coolant heats up and then travels through the heater hose back into the heater core and the process is repeated over again. When the heater hose is defective, coolant is not being transported, and as such, the auto heating will fail and require repairs.
