Missed a Logbook Service Appointment? Why There Is No Place for Complacency

Blog

Do you have a busy schedule and often find it hard to fit everything into a typical day? You're not alone, and you may end up skipping some important meetings or obligations simply to pay attention to priorities and make ends meet. However, this can be an issue if you don't have the time to service your car in accordance with logbook recommendations. Why should you think long and hard before you decide to miss that appointment?

Service Time

Most modern-day cars are very well built and, truth be told, could probably last perfectly well without an interim service. Yet, there is no reason to assume that all will be okay if you avoid the trip to the mechanic, and there could be further repercussions if you make a habit of it.

Missing the Appointment

Obviously, the manufacturer recommends that you change the oil and other consumables at regular intervals so that the vehicle will last as long as possible. It makes sense to believe them and attend to logbook servicing. Complications may arise should you make a habit of missing the service and come across a major mechanical problem. The manufacturer may push back to a degree if they see that you have missed recommended appointments and suggest that the failure may be due to your negligence. While you have rights under Australian Consumer Law, it's best to avoid that situation if you can.

Proving Your Ownership

Also, remember that your vehicle logbook will be an important document when it comes time to get a new vehicle. You will want to sell your existing car or truck, get as much money as possible and make the process easy to deal with. If a prospective new owner thumbs through your logbook and sees that you have missed a number of logbook service appointments, they may not feel that your car is the best fit for their needs.

The Best Approach

All in all, it's better to avoid any issues and to keep up with your logbook service visits. It may not make too much of a difference if you absolutely have to reschedule one here or there, but you should aim to catch up as soon as possible in every case. If you feel guilty because you have missed a recent appointment, reach out to the service bay today and get back on track.
